Amnesty Week

Champaign County Amnesty Week – October 2-6, 2017

Champaign County Courthouse Special Extended Hours:

Monday, Thursday, Friday – 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM

Tuesday, Wednesday – 7:30 AM to 6:30 PM

What is Amnesty Week?

Do you have outstanding criminal or traffic fines and fees? This October, you have a chance to settle delinquent accounts and move forward. For one week only, October 2-6 2017, all collection and late fees will be waived if you pay off your entire case.

How do I know if I have a balance due on any of my cases?

We advise you to  research your cases through our View Public Court Records portal. You can search by name and case number and select the “Fines/Fees” tab to view any remaining balances on your case. Please be aware that it is your responsibility to search all possible names and cases for balances.

How do I know how much I need to pay?

We advise you to research your cases through our View Public Court Records portal. You can search by name and case number and select the “Fines/Fees” tab to view any remaining balances on your case. This screen will show you all fines, fees and costs that are associated with the case. You can take the total due and subtract the “Collections Fee” and “Late Fee” to determine your balance due. Please be aware that it is your responsibility to search all possible names and cases for balances. You may also call our office at 217-384-3725 to speak with a representative to walk you through the process.

I live out of town/state and cannot make it to the Courthouse to pay that week. How can I still participate?

We will be accepting payments through the mail by money order or cashier’s check as long as the envelope is postmarked by October 6th. Unfortunately we cannot accept payments online as we need to verify all credit card transactions using a valid government ID. This will help us ensure that the cardholder is a willing participant in the transaction. You will need to address your envelope as follows:

Champaign County Circuit Clerk, Attention: Amnesty Week

101 East Main Street

Urbana, IL 61801

I looked at the website and the total amount that is due after subtracting the collections and late fee is way more than my attorney said that I would have to pay. What can I do about this?

Unfortunately these isn’t anything that we can do about this. The fines, fees and costs are all authorized by the Court and Illinois Statute, and ordered by the judge in your case. When you left the courtroom you were probably provided a form that included the fine and some other fees, and the order would also have explained that you are to pay all fines, fees and costs as required by statute. For more information about how fines and fees are determined, visit our explanatory page.

I have had my Illinois tax refund/salary offset due to my case being in collections, do I still qualify?

Yes, you still qualify for the Amnesty week. You can pay the remaining balance on your case minus the collection and late fees. As long as you do not have any additional cases in collections you will no longer be offset. We do advise you to research any other potential cases through our View Public Court Records portal. You can search by name and case number and select the “Fines/Fees” tab to view any remaining balances on any cases. Please be aware that it is your responsibility to search all possible names and cases for balances.
